Occupational therapy (OT) is a holistic profession that focuses on enabling people to do what they want and need to do in their everyday lives. OT values autonomy and self advocacy, and it does not require a formal diagnosis for services, as we assess functional abilities and environmental factors that are interfering with completion of daily activities.

Sensory Modulation and Interoception

Sensory modulation is the ability to appropriately respond to sensory information and maintain alertness for daily activities.
Interoception is awareness of internal bodily states and emotions, such as hunger, pain, temperature, and emotional experiences like joy and anxiety.

Target Clients:

  • People with ADHD and/or are Autistic or identify as neurodivergent.

  • People with trauma history, traumatic brain injury, or emotional regulation challenges.

Services can be completed as assessment and recommendations ($300).

Or continuing services, $300 for initial assessment (2 hours), and $120 for followup sessions (1 hour).


Mental Health and Burnout

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines mental health as “a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community.” Mental health is an integral component of health and underpins our abilities to make decisions, build relationships, and participate in meaningful activities.  

Target Clients:

  • People with depression, anxiety, stress related to trauma, emotional dysregulation, dissociation, and burnout, particularly in those with ADHD or those who are Autistic.

  • People experiencing occupational, school, or caregiver burnout.

Generally completed as continuing services, $300 for initial assessment (2 hours), and $120 for followup sessions (1 hour).


Autistic Burnout

Autistic burnout is distinct from other forms of burnout and is characterized by the following three characteristics:

Chronic exhaustion: Pervasive physical, cognitive and social fatigue

Reduced tolerance to stimulus: Increased sensory sensitivities and sensitivity to sensory stimuli 

Loss of skills: Many of our executive functioning skills will worsen during burnout.

Target clients: 

  • Autistic and AuDHD teens and adults; formal diagnosis is not required.

The occupational therapist focuses on identifying burnout, recovery strategies, accommodations, prevention of recurrent burnout, and self-advocacy. Being a later in life diagnosed Autistic ADHDer who's experienced Autistic burnout, they utilize an identity-based therapy practice that combines lived experience with occupational therapy practice.

Generally completed as continuing services, $300 for initial assessment (2 hours), and $120 for followup sessions (1 hour).


School and Workplace Accommodations

Accommodation is a means of preventing and removing barriers that impede students and employees with disabilities from participating fully in the educational and workplace environment in a way that is responsive to their own unique circumstances. 

Target clients: 

  • High school and post-secondary students, with neurodivergence, mental illness, and/or physical disability that interferes with optimal participation in class.

  • Employees with with neurodivergence, mental illness, and/or physical disability that interferes with optimal participation in the workplace.

Can be completed as assessment and recommendations ($300), or continuing services upon request.


Ergonomic Assessment

Ensuring proper body mechanics and equipment are used to reduce risk of injury.

Target areas:

  • Workstation reviews for computer users

  • Janitorial and housekeeping

  • Healthcare and homecare providers doing client transfers

Generally completed as 1 hour assessment and recommendations ($200), optional 30 minute followup after equipment arrives ($60).


Home Safety and Adaptations

Home modifications refer to interventions aimed at improving a person’s physical environment to increase safety, accessibility, and usability, and to align the home’s features with the functional, cognitive, emotional, sensory, and spiritual needs of the person. Home modifications can include adaptive equipment, technology, and/or changes to the physical environment. Home safety can also mean advocating for home support if needed.

Target clients:

  • Teens and adults post-stroke/traumatic brain injury, post-surgery, or with upper extremity injuries.

  • Teens and adults with chronic pain, fatigue, mental health flare ups, and executive function difficulties.

Ideally conducted in person at a client's home so the occupational therapist can see the performance of daily activities; in certain situations virtual assessment may be available. 

Starting at $300 for 2 hour assessment and report.


Life Skills Assessment and Development

Although these are often referred to as independent living skills, the occupational therapist works from an autonomy-based lens. Developing or completing skills may or may not involve external support based on client goals and abilities. Skills range from hygiene, day-to-day house maintenance, money management, using public transportation, travelling safely in their community, going to stores, and participating in leisure activities:

Target clients:

  • Teens and adults post-stroke/traumatic brain injury, post-surgery, or with upper extremity injuries that require adapting how they complete tasks.

  • Teens and adults with chronic pain, fatigue, mental health flare ups, and executive function difficulties, that require adapting how they complete tasks.

  • Teens and adults who want to learn independent living skills from a non-judgemental person.

  • Parents and caregivers who want to learn how to assist a person in their care with completion of tasks (i.e. help with, instead of do for).

This has a broad scope based on client needs and can be completed in-home, in-clinic, in-community, virtually, or a combination of all.

Starting at $300 for 2 hour assessment and report, $120 for followup sessions (1 hour).


Disability Tax Credit

The occupational therapist can assess for walking, feeding, and dressing; this does not guarantee acceptance.
Currently only offering to pre-existing adult clients, and clients who can provide supplemental information about disability from other providers.
