Do I need a referral from a doctor?
No. Your insurance may require a doctor referral to be covered for reimbursement, but you can self-refer for our services.
Do you offer direct billing?
No. You will pay your therapist the fee for the session, and you will be issued a receipt to send to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
What are your wait times for counselling?
Once we receive your referral, it may take two to three days for your therapist or clinician to contact you. Your first counselling session will usually be booked within one to three weeks.
What are your wait times for assessments?
We currently have a 2-12 week wait time for assessments, depending on the type of assessment. Please leave your information on our contact us page and a clinician will be in touch with you within that time frame to set up your intake appointment.
Can you diagnose Autism or just assess for it?
We do both. At Mindful Matters we take a multi-disciplinary team approach to assessing and diagnosing autism. Our diagnosis is accepted by Regional Health Authorities for the provision of autism services, by NLESD for school supports, and by the CRA for the disability tax credit.
Will my child be removed from the Janeway list if I get a private assessment?
No. While your child will not need a duplicate assessment from the Janeway, we encourage you to keep their name on their list to avail of services such as medical management. We have worked with pediatricians, both private and through the health care system, to provide a timely diagnosis to help guide treatment of their patients.
What if I pay for an assessment and there is no diagnosis?
This can happen, but is rarely the case. We carefully screen each client for symptoms and if we feel that they will not meet the criteria, we advise against proceeding with an assessment. You can book a one hour consult/screening with your clinician to determine if an assessment is advised.
What is your cancellation policy?
Appointments may be cancelled or rescheduled within a 24 hour period without penalty. If you miss a session or give less than 24 hours notice of cancellation, you will be billed for the full cost of the session.
What are your counselling and assessment fees?
Price per session will vary depending on the type of intervention required, with a maximum session fee of $180. You will have the opportunity to discuss pricing and insurance coverage with your therapist before your initial session.
